Bosso Reject Excels At SA Tournament

Highlanders reject Obert Tafira was one of the stand out performers at the two day four nation tournament for players out of contract played at Dobonsville stadium in Soweto South Africa.

Tafira who was signed by Bongani Mafu as a replacement for his schoolmate Thomas Chideu who had left for Ajax Cape Town in 2015 did not impress Mafu's successors Cosmas Zulu and Amin Soma Phiri leading to his release at the end of 2015.

But the gangly striker took advantage of the South African tournament to showcase his talents which made him a bright prospect last year. Although he was not on the score sheet, the towering striker caught the attention of many as Zimbabwe walloped Democratic Republic of Congo 4-0 in the third and fourth place playoff.

Ozil Mupumha scored a brace while Masimba Dinyero's 17 year old son Simbarashe scored from the penalty. Virgil Utete wrapped the scoring late in the game.

Former Dynamos captain Thomas Magorimbo who captained the team was also one of the star performers at the tournament alongside young Mupumha.

Footballers Union of Zimbabwe president Desmond Maringwa was thrilled with the perfomance of the players.

“The players acquitted themselves well. The purpose of this tournament was not only about winning but for players to market themselves and I am glad some players are going to get contracts, which we wanted," said Maringwa.

South Africa won the tournament after beating Botswana 4-2 on penalties. The match had ended 1-1 in regulation time.
