Border Strikers Want Bulawayo City Booted Out Of PSL

Border Strikers want Bulawayo City booted out of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League over match fixing allegations.

In a letter addressed to the PSL Chief Executive Officer Kenny Ndebele, Border Strikers accuse the Bulawayo City Executive of being in complicity with their technical team in the alleged match fixing scam.

Border Strikers feel the swift move by the Bulawayo City Executive to suspend the entire Technical Department was just a smokescreen to save face after their plan was exposed.

“We believe the entire Bulawayo City Football Club should be punished for bringing disrepute in the game as this suggests it is their modus operandi. We also believe that their coaches were acting on behalf of the team and Bulawayo City as a whole.  We are praying that the powers that be suspend Bulawayo city football club from the league until a proper and through investigation has been carried out,” read part of the letter.

Border Strikers argue in the protest letter that the Bulawayo City executive might have provided the money for match fixing as their coaches could not part away with the $300 bait given the financial challenges prevailing in the country.

“With the current economic situation in the country right now, we don’t believe a coach can part with such a huge amount of money for the benefit of an organisation as huge as Bulawayo City Council but the vice versa is true. We therefore suspect that this could have happened to some other players in our team even during our previous game against the same team in Bulawayo,”

“Our match was played under protest because we just agreed as a team to fulfill the fixture and not tarnish the image of the league and sponsors although our players and technical team were demoralized.  We also pray that the two games we played against the same team be nullified until an investigation has been carried out.”

Bulawayo City assistant coach Farai Mujokoro is at the centre of the match fixing allegation after he sent texts to Border Strikers goalkeeper Talent Sande enticing him to fix the game pitting the two clubs for a $300 fee.

Bulawayo City executive responded by suspending the entire technical team including head coach Philani Ncube who was implicated in the scam. Bulawayo City beat Border Strikers 1-0 in the tainted match.
