Border Strikers Turn To 'Dr Masomere' For Survival
STRUGGLING Premiership side Border Strikers have appointed Luke Masomere to take charge of their remaining PSL and Cup games replacing acting head Coach Never Malunga who has been reassigned following a string of poor results.
Malunga who took over from Saul Chaminuka in June, presided over 12 PSL matches losing eight, drawing one and won just three games. Among the 3 was a famous home win, beating Dynamos 2-1.
Border Strikers are struggling for fluency and they are languishing at the foot of the 16 team table with only 13 points to show in the campaign.
The dismal performance has been met with disapproval by the club hierarchy which on Monday took a decision to hire Luke Masomere.
Speaking to Sports Zone Club Secretary General Rodlet Chigwinya said Masomere’s immediate task was to save the team from relegation.
“We are trying by all means to avoid relegation, so we have brought in Mr Luke Masomere so that he tries to assist us.
“Never Malunga is relieved of his duties as an acting head coach but he is still part of the Border Strikers technical team,” said Chigwinya.
Masomere has the difficult job of ensuring that “Vavheneki” as the border town club is populary known, pick enough points to survive the chop in the remaining 7 games of the league.
The former How Mine Coach left his post in September 2015 after a string of poor results and has maintained a low profile since he parted left How Mine.
Masomere, who won the league title with AmaZulu in 2003 has also been in charge of, Shabanie, Dynamos, Masvingo United and Buffaloes before as well as stints in Botswana.
