Border Strikers In Dreamland
They might be the league’s punching bag- anchored at the bottom the log standings but Border Strikers are in dreamland- especially after shocking the biggest team in the land. Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Dynamos has injected a new sense of invincibility in the Border Strikers camp such that they are already yearning for their matchday 19 fixture against Harare City, a club they registered their first home win over at Dulivhadzimu stadium.
Dynamos might not be at their best at the moment but Never Malunga the Border Strikers coach says a victory against the former champions still remains a huge accomplishment.
“The win brought some confidence in the dressing room. We might be at the bottom but the players now have confidence. They believe if we can beat Dynamos with all its intimidating stature, what will stop us from beating other team,”said Malunga.
“Every game we are going to play is now a must win game for us and its good we are going into the match against Harare City bubbling with confidence. The fact that we beat Harare City in the reverse fixture gives us even more confidence going into the return match.
“We will keep on believing and in football you never know, we might make a great escape and remain in the premiership.”
William Nyoni sealed Vhavheneki’s victory ten minutes to fulltime after Masimba Mambare had cancelled out an early second half strike from new signing Clever Matendeure.
The win, their third of the season, took Border Strikers to ten points but are still a massive 13 points away from teams that are in the safer zone which include Chapungu, Harare City, Chicken Inn and Hwange.
The border town team added former Shabanie Mine and FC Platinum striker Farai Mususunye and Matendeure during the transfer window after an exodus of a number of players due to financial challenges.
