
Billiat Makes Short List For CAF Award
Zimbabwe Senior Men’s National Football team star and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Khama Billiat has been nominated for the CAF African Player of the Year based in Africa award.
Billiat and three more Mamelodi Sundowns players Keagan Dolly, Hlompho Kekana and Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango have also been named on the five-man shortlist for their excellent performances en route to Sundowns' African glory.
Sundowns lifted the CAF Champions League title following a 3-1 aggregate win over Egyptian side Zamalek.
Billiat was named as South African PSL Footballer of the Year at the end of the 2015/16 season as well as KICK OFF Footballer of the Season.
The fifth player on the list is Zambia Captain Rainford Kalaba who won the CAF confederation Cup with TP Mazembe.
Besides the African Player of the Year based in Africa award, CAF also announced the five man shortlist for the African Player of the Year and the players are as follows:
1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon & Borrusia Dortmund)
2. Riyad Mahrez (Algeria & Leicester City)
3. Sadio Mane (Senegal & Liverpool)
4. Mohamed Salah (Egypt & Roma)
5. Islam Slimani (Algeria & Leicester City)
For the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa), the top five are;
1. Khama Billiat (Mamelodi Sundowns & Zimbabwe)
2. Keegan Dolly (Mamelodi Sundowns & South Africa)
3. Rainford Kalaba (TP Mazembe & Zambia)
4. Hlompho Kekana (Mamelodi Sundowns & South Africa)
5. Denis Onyango (Mamelodi Sundowns & Uganda)
The eventual winners will be announced on Thursday, 5 January 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria at the Glo-CAF Awards Gala.
