Billiat Grabs Vital Away Goal As ZESCO Stun Sundowns
Khama Billiat snatched a late away goal as Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a 2-1 defeat away to ZESCO United in their CAF Champions League semi-final first leg match at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday.
Zambian side ZESCO United were looking to grab a first-leg advantage when they hosted the South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in Ndola.
Jackson Mwanza scored a brace in the space of two minutes, first breaking the deadlock nine minutes into the second-half with a header and directing a Mwape Mwelwa's quick free-kick home in the 56th minute.
Sundowns Coach Pitso Mosimane made a tactical change with ten minutes left on the clock - introducing forward Anthony Laffor for defender Tebogo Langerman.
Two minutes after coming on, the Liberian had his first touch of game with a volleyed effort that went narrowly over the crossbar as Downs gained some momentum in attack.
At the other end, Uganda international Onyango produced a brilliant save to deny Zesco forward Idriss Mbombo from close range in the 86th minute as the home side searched for their third goal.
Almost immediately Laffor found space down the right flank and picked out Billiat at the far-post, with the Warriors Player making no mistake in beating Banda at his near post.
Sundowns will now look to use the away goal to their advantage when they welcome ZESCO in Tshwane next weekend.
