Billiat And Co Must Step Up - Mosimane
Zimbabwean star Khama Billiat is one of the players Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane expects to rise to the occasion in tonight’s CAF Super Cup match against TP Mazembe at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Kick-off scheduled for 7PM Zimbabwe time.
Mosimane made as many as nine changes to his line-up for their midweek Absa Premiership clash against Chippa United, as he rested several key players including Billiat, Hlompho Kekana, Anthony Laffor and Percy Tau.
While Tau has become an indispensable figure for Sundowns of late, the CAF Coach of the Year says tonight's clash is perfect for the "big boys" to up their game and make a telling contribution.
"You must understand, Percy is very emotional. When you put too much pressure on him, sometimes he wants to dribble a lot and forget about scoring," Mosimane told Kick Off.
"We've been putting pressure that he must score, he's started to score, so it's not on him [tonight]. Let the big boys come up [to the occasion] - Khama, Anthony...
"You know Anthony always rises to the occasion. You know he likes these big games, that's why I said, 'ahh, Chippa, let him [sit out], he won't be interested.
"I never took him, I said have the day off [because] he won't be interested. I said, 'you for the final, come to the final my boy,' so I let him rest."
Mosimane also explained that, with regards to his senior players' ages, it's not wise to allow them to play four consecutive games without a break, hence he made wholesale changes against The Chilli Boys.
"You must also understand, they're no longer young also," he adds.
"Four games in a row is not good. I rested him [Laffor], Ricardo [Nascimento], Kekana – he's 30, he's not young – so I made nine changes against Chippa but they didn't disappoint. I mean we could have won that game, but we didn't, but they didn't disappoint."
