Battle For Talent

DYNAMOS and ZPC Kariba have been ruled out of the race for highly-rated winger Talent Chawapihwa.

SportsZone can confirm that two local clubs and two foreign are on track, chasing for the signature of the winger.

The speedy Chawapihwa, who had a good season at ZPC Kariba this season, has attracted a lot of attention from local teams.

This will be the second year running that ZPC Kariba will fail to retain a key player.

“He will not be going back to ZPC Kariba. That is certain. And he will also not be going to Dynamos as speculated.

“What I can say is that there are two concrete offers from local clubs that we are considering while two foreign clubs have also expressed interest,” said the player’s manager Calvin Nyazema.

Although Nyazema could not reveal the names of the local clubs interested, Ngezi Platinum, who are racing against time to try and assemble a strong squad for CAF Confederation Cup, are believed to be the front runners.

One between FC Platinum and Chicken Inn are also believed to be the other interested club.

“We cannot reveal the clubs who are interested. We are just waiting to hear what the foreign clubs are saying and if nothing materialises, we will then sign with one of the local clubs,” he added.

Mid-season Harare City showed interest in signing back Chawapihwa but they have since fallen by the way side.

ZPC Kariba had opened negotiations with the player, but their bargaining power was also reduced by the fact that it is not certain who will be their coach next season.

“Yes, they (ZPC) were interested in his signature but he will not be going back there. As for Dynamos, there is nothing I can say about it because there was no offer.

“At the moment, what is important is to just make sure the boy gets the best possible move for his career,” said Nyazema.
