Bambo’s Reign At City Over ?

Moses “ Bambo” Chunga’s reign as Harare City head coach might have ended on a sad note with a defeat to Triangle on Friday according to inside information.

The source say, the Harare City executive met on Thursday and decided not to renew Chunga’s contract which ends on December 31 2016.

The executive is said to have agreed to elevate assistant coach Mukhupali Masuku to head coach for the 2017 season and will be assisted by Mike Madzivanyika.

“The executive felt that Chunga is not really taking us anywhere considering the investments we made to the team. His selection of players has also been questionable so after the meeting on Thursday they decided not to renew his contract and have Mukhupali as the new coach,” the source said.

However Chunga was singing a different tune after the fans barricaded him in the dressing room for some minutes after the 2-0 defeat to Triangle. He described the abusive taunts by the fans as “sweet music to the ears” and claimed that he was unmoved as he has the support of the executive.

“They are just singing sweet music into my ears. It was not just our day; we had a bad day in office. Otherwise these are the same youngsters who have been playing all along and nothing has changed. Actually my superiors are impressed with the way we have been playing and I have their backing. We are looking forward to a better season next year because these players have now matured,” said Chunga.

Chunga elevated a number of youngsters to the first team this season reminiscent of his ‘Kidznet’ project at Dynamos at the turn of the millennium when he brought in youngsters from the juniors and scrapped a number of senior players.

Most senior players such Themba Ndlovu, Tendai Samanja, and Crispen Dickson have seen little game time this season,  with Chunga preferring youngsters like Jerry Chipangura, Learnmore Muyambo, Tatenda Tumba and Hastings Chapusha.
