Appiah: Zim Premiership Exciting
ZPC Kariba’s Ghanaian defender Sylvester Appiah, the only West African player in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, has fallen in love with Zimbabwe and thinks he has now settled well at the electricians.
The 19-year-old centre back joined ZPC Kariba from Liberty Professionals of Ghana in 2015 and has since become an integral part of Sunday Chidzambwa’s football transformation mission in the resort town.
Appiah spoke to Sportzone ahead of Saturday’s trip to Ngezi where ZPC Kariba clash with Ngezi Platinum Stars at the Baobab Stadium.
ZPC Kariba, who fared dismally last term have raised a gear up this season and go into Match Day 13 four points behind log leaders Highlanders who are on 26.
“Zimbabweans are lovely people, this is a perfect country brother and I wouldn’t ask for more,” said Appiah whose contract with ZPC Kariba expires in December.
“The league is very competitive, it is run professionally and I think play here is a bit faster as compared to my homeland’s top flight league.
“You have quick players here, very stylish and exciting,” he said.
Appiah was brought to Zimbabwe by former Dynamos and Caps United forward George Owusu before Wilson Mutekede linked him with ZPC Kariba.
“They (ZPC Kariba) are an ambitious team, very professional. I must say I am comfortable here in Kariba.
“We have done quite well this season but we are taking it bit by bit,” said Appiah.
ZPC Kariba go into the match on the back of two winless games and they date a Ngezi Platinum Stars side that has begun picking up crucial points under new gaffer Tonderai Ndiraya.
Ngezi Platinum Stars stunned How Mine 2-1 in Bulawayo last Saturday, a week after they picked up their first victory at the Baobab – a 1-0 win over Border Strikers.
