Antipas Searches For Improvement
AmaZulu coach Joey Antipas might have started on a winning note but the former Chicken Inn coach believes his National First Division still has a lot of areas to work on.
Antipas’s AmaZulu got the better of Black Leopards – who are coached by fellow Zimbabwean Jairos Tapera – 2-1 through goals from Siyabonga Nomvete and Lungelo Dlamini but the gaffer was not completely impressed with his sides opening performance.
“It’s always important to start well because if you win your opening game the confidence creeps into the players, which is good,” Antipas told his club's website.
“I’m happy with the result but there’s still a lot of work to do like all the 16 teams that are vying for the championship.”
Antipas's men next face Cape Town All Stars at Parow Park on Sunday.
“I’d say that we gave a good account of ourselves although it’s still quite early days. We have a lot of to do. I believe that if we continue in the direction we going we could be a team that is difficult to beat. There’s a lot of hard work still to do in all areas.
“I’ll say that our biggest problem was that at times when we dropped off them, we made them look good. I thought our pressing wasn’t up to scratch – I thought that if we’d pressed them a lot more we could’ve gotten more goals, but as I said it’s the first game.”
