Antipas Sacrificed His Job For Karuru's Career
JOEY ANTIPAS, the man who gave Ovidy Karuru a new lease of life at Amazulu in South Africa has hailed the Masvingo bred linkman whose star is shining once again in the South African ABSA Premiership.
The 29-year-old Karuru scored the winner for Amazulu who beat SuperSport United 1-0 last Wednesday.
It was Karuru’s second goal in 14 appearances and enough to leave Antipas running out of superlatives to describe the player’s resurrection.
“Ovidy is a player with all the attributes of a very top footballer,” Antiaps told The Herald.
“When he was lost and found after his contract was terminated by Kaizer Chiefs, I managed to get hold of him and he responded well by coming to play for Amazulu.
“I battled to sign him at Amazulu, the bosses weren’t too sure, but I assured them that he was a very good player, so I put my head on the block.”
Karuru’s Amazulu have moved up to 11th on the 16-team ABSA Premiership table.
