Another Striker Off To Tanzania
Harare City striker Francisco Zekumbawire slipped out of the country Thursday morning for a two week trial with huge spending Tanzanian side Azam.
The player's agent George Deda and Harare City have confirmed the development that could see the former Hwange and Dynamos hitman becoming the second Zimbabwean player at Azam after Bruce Kangwa.
"Yes, he flew aboard a South African Airways this morning (Thursday),"said Deda.
Harare City spokesman Hope Chizuzu said they have always had an open door policy for their players to leave whenever an opportunity arises.
"No figures have been thrown yet but I can confirm that the boy has gone for a two weeks trial period," said Chizuzu.
Caps United forward Brian Abbas Amidu is also attending trials with Azam.
Traditionally, most Zimbabwean players have moved to the South African Absa Premiership but the trend could be changing as the Tanzanian league has begun to attract a number of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League players.
The former FC Platinum duo of Thabani Kamusoko Donald Ngoma were the pioneers of the new phenomenon when they joined Ligi Kuu Bara reigning champions Young Africans at the beginning of the 2015/2016 season.
Zambian import Obrey Chirwa then followed, so did former Caps United Captain Method Mwanjali.
Simba Stars have former Dynamos skipper Justice Majabvi on their books.
The Tanzania 2016/17 season starts in August in line with the European league.
