15 Years On, Mombeshora Still Going Strong

The first half of the 2016 Castle Larger Premier Soccer League has seen new heroes being made.

Highlanders' Prince Dube shot to prominence scoring and providing an assist which ended Dynamos' decade long dominance over Bosso while King Nasama heralded his coming into the Premiership with a winner that signalled the beginning of their seven match unbeaten run.

This coming on the fateful day in which nine of their supporters perished in a road accident on their way to face Chapungu in Gweru.

Chapungu's veteran midfielder Tafadzwa 'Lecture' Mombeshora or simply MudharaShafe looks on his 15 years in the Premiership.

Mombeshora who has played for a number of premiership clubs ranks among the dinosaurs in the league having made his debut with the now defunct Eiffel Flats at the turn of the millennium.

“It’s a milestone achievement to have played for so many years and still going strong. This is all because of the hard work I put in and also the support from all the stakeholders at the teams I played for," said Mombeshora.

“Naturally I have been lucky that I have been adored everywhere I have been and such support from coaches, fellow players and fans has helped me to stay this long in the game."

The player who celebrated his 35th birthday after coming on as a second half substitute to propel his side to a victory over Chicken Inn recently reckons the push from the 'Rimuka Boys' in his hometown Kadoma spurs him to continue playing.

“We group up as a band of brothers in Kadoma and the inspiration from older guys like Kaitano Tembo made us take football as a career.

“There are younger players than me, the likes of Cuthbert Malajila, Themba Ndlovu, Daniel Zokoto, Charles Chiutsa, they push me to continue playing as they call me their senior hence the nickname Lecturer.

“I also want to thank my coach and team-mates at Chapungu because I have been able to pick up my best form once again and enjoying football''.

Mombeshora looks at the 2013 season with Shabanie Mine as one of the best of his career in which he captained the team to the Banc ABC Cup winning the player of the tournament accolade and the Man-of-the-Match award in the final.

The gangly midfielder has also played for Monomotapa, Motor Action, Kwekwe Cables and Buffaloes.
